The National Executive Council (NEC) has resolved to convene a special session to review the reports of the judicial panels on police brutality and other related concerns. This was disclosed yesterday, after the virtual council meeting chairs by the Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo.
Recall that the judicial panels were recommended after adoption of a resolution by NEC to address nationwide complaints of police brutality after the President dissolved the Police SARS unit with almost all States in the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), setting up panels.
The special NEC meeting would also consider the implementation of the reports including remedies, redress and compensations. According to Laolu Akande, a presidential spokesman in the Office of the Vice- President, Osinbajo also inaugurated the National Road Safety Advisory Council at the meeting. The Road Safety Advisory Council is chaired by Osinbajo with the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi as Secretary. Other members of the 29-member Advisory Council include: six governors representing the six geo-political zones as follows: Chief Willie Obiano, FCA, Governor of Anambra State, representing the South-East zone; Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, representing the South-South zone; Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, representing the South-West zone; Alh. Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State representing the North-East zone; Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State representing North-West and Mr. Abdulrahman Abdul- Rasaq, Governor of Kwara State, representing the North- Central zone. Members of the panel include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Minister of Ministry of Transport, Minister of Works; Minister of Health; Minister of Justice; Minister of Education; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning; Minister of Environment; Minister of Labour and Employment; Minister of Police Affairs; Minister of Interior; Minister of State, Finance, Budget and National Planning; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
