Ogun police arrest five suspected kidnappers, recover hard drugs, cash

The Police in Ogun State have arrested five members of a kidnap syndicate suspected to be terrorising Obada Oko and its environs in the state. The suspects are: Aliu Manya, Usman Abubakar, Abayomi Olayiwola, Nasiru Muhammad and Bello Usman. Oba Oko in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state has been under the siege of kidnappers in recent times.

In the last three weeks, no fewer than 10 people have been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in the area. The suspects, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi were arrested in the forest at Eleja area of Obada Oko on Tuesday at about 8 pm. Oyeyemi who disclosed this to journalists in Abeokuta yesterday said the suspects were arrested following information received by policemen attached to Obada Oko Divisional Headquarters that the men were sighted on two motorcycles inside the forest.

“Upon the information, the DPO of Obada Oko division, CSP Tijani Muhammed, quickly mobilised his men and in conjunction with other stakeholders like the So Safe corps, hunters and local vigilance, stormed the forest where the five suspects were apprehended. “While investigation was going on, a kidnap victim who was earlier kidnapped and released came forward to identify the suspects as those that kidnapped him.

“His brother, who took ransom money to them also identified two amongst the suspects as those who collected the money from him for the release of his brother,” the PPRO said. He disclosed that, illicit drugs such as packs of tramadol, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, three cutlasses and two motorcycles with registration number, MEK 504 VC and ODE 423 VC as well as cash sum of N73,000 were recovered from the suspects. Oyeyemi added that, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
