…says Mikel, Nwakaeme make him feel at home
uper Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has expressed his happiness over his return to action after his recovery from a career-threatening injury that kept him out of the game for more than a year.
The former Lazio of Italy midfielder suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his club, Trabzonspor’s 4-1 win against Rizespor in a Turkish Super Lig game in December 2018.
Onazi said he was delighted to be back to fitness and playing football again ahead of his team’s game against Denizlispor in the first leg round of 16 of the Turkish Cup on Thursday.
“It is not easy to be out of action for more than a year, but I am glad to be back,” he said.
“I have been trying to see how good I can cope and I am happy I have not witnessed any set back, so I am good to go ahead of the second half of the season.
“The most important thing for me is that I am good and ready to go while trying my best to contribute my quota to the progress of my club.”
Meanwhile, Onazi has praised the impact of two Nigeria players in the team, retired captain of the Super Eagles, Mikel Obi, and national team striker, Anthony Nwakaeme.
He revealed that the duo have made his stay in Turkey a memorable one by supporting him and making the place a home for him. While looking forward to playing in the midfield alongside Mikel like their time
He added: “Having Nigerians in your team feels like home. Players like Mikel and Tony…wow! We are already enjoying ourselves like in the national team. I’m happy to have them here.”
He further added that he was already excited with the prospect of sharing the same midfield with Mikel after the pair played together for the first time in Trabzonspor’s goalless draw against Bursaspor in a friendly game in Antalya.
