Ondo: Gunmen kidnap Igbo chief, cart away cash

The Eze Ndigbo of Ifon community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Donatus Okereke, has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. Okereke, believed to have been kidnapped around Elegbaka within the council area on Monday, is a popular businessman in Ifon community and had left home to a quarry company when his vehicle was found abandoned in the middle of the road. The axis he was kidnapped is where the monarch of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi was killed by yet to be identified gunmen last year. According to a community leader and Secretary to the Regent of Ifon, Olaniyi Eni Olotu, his abductors shot into the air before forcefully taking him into the bush. Olotu who stated that both the Police and Amotekun had been contacted over the incident, also disclosed that the gunmen took away large sums of money from the Igbo Chief ’s vehicle. “Immediately we got the alarm about his abduction, the Regent of Ifon swung into action and contacted the Po-lice as well as the Amotekun corps,” Olotu said. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that the vehicle of Okereke was seen in the middle of the road and that his number had not been going through since Monday. “It’s actually a case of suspected kidnapping, because bullet shells were said to have been found where they saw his vehicle “The DPO within the axis has mobilised his men to search for him.”
