PDP kicks as Akeredolu appoints son, DG, 14 commissioners

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has appointed his son, Babajide, as Director General, Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU). He also appointed 14 commissioners and seven special advisers. The appointments were announced late Tuesday. But the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who condemned Babajide’s appointment on Wednesday, claimed it was an abuse of office and, “part of the grand design to finally empty the treasury of the state.”

A statement by the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kennedy Peretei, said: “The appointment as DG of PPMIU of Babajide, a young man who carries on as though he was the person voted as governor, is part of the grand design to finally empty the treasury of the State before Akeredolu returns to Ibadan.”

The statement said, “Babajide’s conduct is reminiscent of the ignoble actions of Commodus, son and heir apparent of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who at age 12, upon finding out that his bathwater was not sufficiently heated, ordered the servant to be thrown into the furnace.” The PDP alleged that 25 percent of the Internally Generated Revenue of the state goes into the account of Canadian Systems Development Company (CSDC). It said, “It thus appears that Mr Governor and his immediate family are bent on living fat on the lean resources of the people, when poverty has taken over the land, walking in all four legs.” However, in his a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, the governor dismissed the allegations.
