PDP secretary visits Kalu

Less than 24 hours after he hosted a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, the Chief Whip of the Senate Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu played host to newly elected National Secretary of the PDP Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

Anyanwu, who will be sworn in on Thursday next week, visited Kalu in his private residence in Abuja. The purpose of the visit was not immediately known, but Anyanwu said in a telephone interview that “there is no ulterior motive. It was a friendly visit. We have been friends for long”.

However, a source at the meeting said it was a “thank you visit” to Kalu for visiting the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafara (IPOB) Nnamdi Kalu, who is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The source said, “The visit was not political. The PDP National Secretary described him (ex-Abia State governor) as a reputable South-East leader.” He quoted Anyanwu to have stated that Nnamdi Kalu “is not a criminal, he is not a terrorist. He is agitating to make sure that his people have a pride of place in Nigeria.” He also said as South-East leaders, they should try to allow the region to have a pride of place in the country, and said political party is just a movement, what is important is about Nigerians. Kalu thanked them for the visit, and noted that Ayim had visited him a day before. The legislator was a member of the PDP and was elected governor twice on the platform of the party before he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016.
