Police repel attack, rescue 24 kidnap victims in Zamfara

Police Command has succeeded in repelling a coordinated attack by bandits in Gungurawa village under Bungudu Local Government Area of the state Friday night, as 24 kidnapped victims were rescued by the joint operatives after a serious gun battle.

 

Parading the rescued victims by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkana who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Shehu Mohammed at the Police Command Gusau, said the Police Tactical Operatives attached to 42 PMF Squadron in collaboration with other security operatives have jointly responded to a distress call to Gungurawa village where they repelled the attack

 

According to CP Elkana, On the 18th February, 2022 at about 11:00 PM, Police Tactical operatives attached to 42 PMF Squadron Gusau, on Anti – Banditry Operations  along Gurgurawa axis in Bungudu LGA, recieved a distress call that, armed bandits in large number have invaded Gurgurawa village and abducted some community members.

 

“On receiving the information, the Tactical Operatives in Collaboration with other security operatives and the Vigilante group of the area, swung into action and mobilized to the location for an extensive search and rescue operation.

On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums started shooting sporadically, but were repelled by the operatives. As a result of the superior fire power of the Tactical Operatives, the hoodlums fled and abandoned the victims.

 

“Fourteen victims, mostly women, have been rescued at the scene, while ten others who scampered for safety escaped back to the village unhurt.

 

The victims received medical treatment before being debriefed by the Police. Some of them have been reunited with their families”, CP Elkana has explained.
