Rich family threatens couple with death for seeking justice for man killed by reckless driving

For several months now, Racheal Mayomi Alayo and her husband, Ayomide Alayo-Bamisaye, have not known peace. Apart from being physically attacked and sent death threat messages by unknown persons many times, they have been forced to abandon their home on at 2 Oyashina close off Oyetoro street, Abule-Egba, Lagos on several occasions to remain alive. Despite making several reports to the police of this development, nothing has changed. They live each passing day at the mercy of their assailants.

The couple’s ordeal began on August 18, 2016 when the wife, who worked at a call centre in Lagos — Contact Solutions Limited — received a distress call that evening of a fatal car accident. A young drunken man, who is a member of a wealthy family known as Adegbola Olumide, knocked down a pedestrian, Oladapo Dosumu Collins at a section of Lagos that day. Making proper documentation of the incident for further investigation by law enforcement agencies through the distress call received, Mrs Alayo was able to identify the culprit (Olumide) and victim (Collins) of the incident. A devout Christian and thorough-bred  professional, she was determined to ensure the victim’s family got justice for the life of their son cut short through the reckless driving of the culprit. That was the beginning of more problems for the young lady, her husband and extended family members.

“I was a supervisor at Contact Solutions Limited, a privately owned company affiliated to Lagos

State Government. The company, which is a call center, attends to emergency cases in the state such as accidents, fire outbreaks, armed robberies by relaying the information to necessary authorities for immediate action.

“A distressing call came in on August 18, 2016 of an accident, which claimed the

life of a young man named Oladapo Dosumu Collins.

“It was a serious incident and my job was to make a report, document it for future reference.

“My report in this particular situation was vital in ensuring justice because life was involved. The victim’s life was cut short because of the driver’s negligence and drunkeness, so I became interested to make sure the family of the deceased got justice,” she said.

The days and weeks that followed that incident not only made life a living hell for the young couple but also thwarted all plans they had together for the future. It was a very difficult period for them.

“Things didn’t turn out as easy as I was expecting because the young man who had the accident is a member of the Adegbola family, a rich and influential household. They were desperate to cover up the case by destroying every

evidence that can make expose their son’s involvement and send him to jail.

“They made efforts to bribe me and buy me over with money but I refused. After they realised I wasn’t giving in to their monetary offers, they resorted to threatening my life and that of my family members with calls and messages.

“It became so terrifying that I had to report to the police on February 12, 2017. I and my husband were assured that something would be done to apprehend those behind the calls.

“To our surprise, our house was burgled on March 1, 2017 by the same people paid to come after us. We made another report to the police the next day.

We decided to temporarily vacate our home until we could find a solution to the whole issue but before we could actualise the plan, we were physically attacked. My husband was cut with knife in his face while he was trying to make sure I escaped, while I sustained bruises on my arm. It was only then we realised the danger we were dealing with,” she added.

Leaving their home in Lagos to take refuge at her parents house at 50 Gaa Akanbi Road, Ilorin Kwara State, while her husband put up with a friend in Lagos, the situation grew more troubling for the couple by the day. The Adegbola family and their accomplices were hell-bent on hacking them to death in order to conceal the facts of their son’s role in the death of Collins.

“I applied to stay off work in order to deal with my personal issues because the management tried to persuade me to yield to the family’s (Adegbola) request so that I can save myself.

“Shockingly, I was traced to my parents home in Ilorin. The attackers met my father, Samuel Oludare Taiwo, when they came and assaulted him. They vowed that I would be killed if I refused to drop the evidence with me. My father, who had underlying health issues and high blood pressure before that incident, died from the injury he sustained from the attack on September 23, 2017, which was my birthday.

“Immediately after the attack on my parents home, my husband advised that I returned to Lagos so that we could seek help from a private security company while we arrange to leave the country entirely.

“I realised during the whole issue that I was pregnant but lost it due to the emotional and mental stress we were passing through at the time. I fell into depression shortly afterwards as a result of the crisis,” she revealed.
