Security agents intercept bags of foreign currencies at Kano Airport

Security officers yesterday intercepted bags filled with different foreign currencies smuggled via Ethiopian Airlines. The money was intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, following the arrival of the Ethiopian Airlines about 2pm. A source explained that the Ethiopian Airlines flight arrived about 1.30pm to 2pm.

“As soon as the plane left, some security personnel uncovered some suspicious luggage and upon checking them, different foreign currencies were seen in them. “Upon further checking of the luggage, different foreign currencies such as Dollars, Euro, Pound Sterlings and others were uncovered,” the source said. Based on the discovery, other security agents such as the personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were invited. “The security agents started counting the money about 2pm and they could not finish till the evening,” the source added. No security agency was willing to speak with journalists on the seizure.
