SESSPN faults sack of UNILAG VC

The leadership and members the South- East and South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN), yesterday condemned in strong terms the purported sack of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, by the university’s governing council.

They called on the federal government to wade into the crisis to save the institution’s image. Chairman, Edo State Chapter, South-East and South-South Professionals of Nigeria, Mr. Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, in an interview in Benin, the Edo State capital, frowned at the sudden and dramatic sack of the vice chancellor by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN). He, however, advised government to constitute an investigative panel and accordingly, make profound recommendations to the university’s Visitor, President Muhammadu Buhari), for approval.

Edokpolo’s reaction followed allegations of abuse of office leveled against the VC, and the counter allegations of crass bias brought against the chairman of the Governing Council, which according to him, must be investigated to expose those fueling crisis in the varsity. He also appealed to the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, to wade into the feud with a view to preserving the fragile peace in the university’s academic community.
