Soon I’ll be one of the top afrobeat singers in Nigeria – Kaj Akinyede

 

Akinyede Kolawole Johnson popularly known by his stage name ‘Kaj Akinyede’ is one of the few out there passionate about music.

So much that he followed his dream of studying music abroad. After settling in with the Nigerian flow of music, he said that in five years, he will be among the top names in the Afrobeat genre.

Born and bred in Lagos, the only son of a family of five kids, Kaj Akinyemi was studying at the University of Lagos but he dropped out in his first year after he got a visa to travel abroad.

“My focus while abroad was on my education, because that was what took me out of the country, and I am thankful to God that I achieved my goals. I went to music school and I got some certifications in IT,” he disclosed.

Speaking about his area of strength as an Afrobeat singer, Kaj Akinyede said: “I am good at music productions and I can handle live performance very well.”

The singer, who shot to fame with his collaboration with 9ice on a track titled ‘Amope’, further claimed that he is inspired musically by the songs of Tekno and Olamide.

Having established himself as a serious Afrobeat musician, Kaj Akinyede has his eyes focused on the future.

“In five or 10 years, I should be one of the top names in the Afrobeat genre,” he said.

Aside admitting that he is romantic, Afrobeat singer and ‘Amope’ crooner, Kaj Akinyede is not predisposed to discuss love, marriage and divorce issues. For him, music is the only thing worth discussing.

Asked recently for his take on the trend of divorce among celebrities, he responded cautiously, saying: “I don’t what to talk about that.”

Similarly, he would not talk about the subject matter of ‘baby mamas’ that is currently the vogue in the showbiz industry.

An evasive Kaj Akinyede simply said: “The subject matter of baby mama is a media creation. And it trends because media focus excessively on celebrities.”

While the Afrobeat singer, would also not discuss his relationship or family life, he was, however, eager to talk about his music.
