Borno: Nigerian troops rescue octogenarian, others from Boko Haram insurgents

Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed to Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno have subdued Boko Haram terrorists and rescued an octogenarian, three women and four children held captives by the insurgents. The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. Iliyasu said that the rescued victims were evacuated while the children among them were equally administered with Polio Vaccination by a Nigerian Army medical team. Twelve persons including seven soldiers have been reportedly killed while many others were injured when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday evening, vigilante and security sources said. Two Local Government Areas of Gubio and Magumeri in Northern Borno Senatorial District are currently under the control of Boko Haram when the insurgents in their large number launched a coordinated attack on the communities beginning from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning without confrontation. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said it recently intercepted, seized and destroyed some unwholesome products in Maiduguri. Boko Haram gunmen on Saturday killed 23 mourners in Borno State in Nigeria’s restive northeast after they attended a funeral, local militia and residents said.
