Consumer protection council raises concern on Lucozade, Mirinda

The Consumer Protection Council, (CPC), has called for further investigation of soft drinks sold in Nigeria, following the discovery that the benzoic acid in Mirinda (a product of Seven Up Bottling Company) and Lucozade (a product of Suntory) is higher than the Nigerian regulatory standard of 250mg/kg. The benzoic levels of both drinks are said to be up to 330mg/kg and 323.53mg/kg respectively. Senator Dino Melaye escaped death by the whiskers as gunmen invaded his house in the early hours of Saturday at Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State. Fire destroys Sokoto old market

Goods worth millions of naira were on Friday night destroyed by fire at a section of the Sokoto old market, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. NAN reports that dozens of shops containing assorted food stuff, cooking oil, detergents and other household items were consumed by the inferno.   Testimony released by the Brazilian Supreme Court alleges that builders and politicians illegally profited from the construction of stadiums used in the 2014 football World Cup.
