Total Energies promises hitch-free 2021 AFCON

Ahead of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon early next year, Total Energies has promised to make the event more memorable. The tournament, which is reputed to the Africa’s biggest football event, is taking place in the franco-phone country, between January 9th and February 6th, 2022. Speaking during the pre-mundial press conference in Lagos, the company’s Managing Director, Mr Samba Seye, said that the tournament will be hitch-free, as the company has put in place in modalities to power both the existing viewing centres and new ones across the country.

Total Energies, a petroleum products marketing firm and subsidiary of Total France, organised the briefing, in order to display the coveted golden trophy reserves for the winner of AFCON, in cities such as Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Seye, who was represented at the event, by Total Energies’ Executive Director, Mr Lesley Baxter, said the company, in line with its tradition of promoting football in Africa, would continue to support AFCON. Continuing further, Seye said that the tournament would bring Africans together as one big family, that is bonded by football.

He said: ” As a way to connect with Africa and show our love and support for Africans, we have partnered with Confederation of African Football (CAF). There is no doubt that Football is the most popular and most loved sport in Nigeria. It is a unifying factor. We all celebrate together when we win; we brood together when we lose”.

This development, Seye said, informed the decision why the trophy your is taking place in Nigeria. “This tour is displaying the actual golden trophy; the much-coveted trophy that will be given to the TotalEnergies AFCON winner. The tour will see the celebration of football across our country, particularly in Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Abuja. This tour will be an opportunity to celebrate this monumental tournament and give our beloved Nigerians a feel of the tournament rush.” he added.
