Two die, 8 injured in Benin – Ore Expressway accident

Two people have been confirmed dead and eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident on the Benin – Ore Expressway.

 

The accident occurred at 9.30 pm on Sunday after J4 Ogbere axis of the highway in Ogun State. The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe confirmed this to journalists in Abeokuta yesterday.

 

According to Okpe, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus, marked, APP867XZ and a truck with registration number, KJA376 XN.

 

“A total number of 10 persons comprising five male and five female adults were involved in the accident. “Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded from the crash,” Okpe said.

She attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed which led to loss of control.

 

Okpe disclosed that, the injured victims have been taken to the state general hospital in Ijebu-Ode while the corpses of the victims were deposited at the morgue.

 

She noted that the sector commander of FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Ahmed Umar has cautioned motorists on excessive speed, especially at night when visibility is poor.
