Unexpected death of pastors worries CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed concern over what it described as unexpected passage of church leaders even as it called for intensive prayers for protection and longer life for those alive to fulfill their callings.

The association recalled that the General Overseer of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM) Rev Obiora Ezekiel, Pastor Mrs Badejo of Four Square Gospel Church, and Pastor Nomthi Odukoya, wife of the Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya, passed on recently.

Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant (Media & Communications) to CAN President, Rev Samson Ayokunle, in a statement described their deaths as big losses whose vacuum would be greatly felt by their families, the church in Nigeria and the nation.

CAN commiserated with Pastor Odukoya whose wife died after a protracted battle with cancer and prayed for divine comfort and consolation. “The Lord will not let her relocation stop the assignment given to him but, instead, help him to rise up against the challenge in Jesus’ name.

“The seeming sad event will turn out for good as the Lord promised us in Romans 8:28, in Jesus’ name,” CAN prayed. According to the association, the death of Rev Ezekiel, whom it noted, was among the Founding Fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has left a vacuum in the PFN.

“To us as the umbrella body of all churches in the country, his relocation came when his wisdom and godly counsel are still needed.

“Our consolation is that he slept in the Lord whom he served till he breathed his last,” CAN noted. It prayed for God’s comfort on his wife, Mrs Mercy Ezekiel, and Christ Pentecostal Mission (CPM).

The association noted that Mrs Badejo of the Four Square Gospel Church died barely three months after the transition to glory of her husband, Rev Wilson Badejo. “We have decided not to sorrow as unbelievers, because we know there is life of eternal glory and splendor after death for those who believe in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

“Death is the beginning of a better life; it is, of course, described in the Scripture as gain! “May the Lord watch over the rest of us and help us to live everyday of our lives to the glory of his name in Jesus’ name.”
