…another lecturer attacked, writes ASUU
Abductors of the six persons from the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) on Tuesday have reached out to their families, demanding a ransom of N300 million. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed the new development to our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday. This was even as news filtered out yesterday that another lecturer of the University, Dr. David Okoroafor, was attacked in his office on Wednesday at 11: am. The attack on Okoroafor occurred less than 24 hours after the abduction of the six individuals. The lecturer had since reported the incident to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) officials.
Giving further information on the demand of ransom for the abduction of the six individuals, the source said: “They demanded N50 million for each person and had already contacted their families, but that is all we know for now.” The Public Relations Officer of the school, Habib Yakoob stated: “They (kidnappers) got in touch with the families of the staff and parents of the abducted children. We learnt they are asking for N300 million for all of them.” A yet-to-be-disclosed number of gunmen stormed UNIABUJA in the early hours of Tuesday morning and kidnapped two professors, a non-academic staff and three others.
