The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called on political leaders in Nigeria to always visit the residence of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo for needed inspiration for right leadership.
Speaking after his recent visit to Ikenne home of the late sage, Oba Akanbi said he was fulfilled having kept the visit in his diary for a long time, saying the late Chief Awolowo was his role model and a correctional image for successive leaders.
Oluwo said that the volume of archival materials in the residence of the sage will no doubt encourage service to humanity, stating that it is high time leaders changed from pursuing personal goals at the expense of the electorate.
Oba Akanbi stated that no one had matched the legacy of Chief Awolowo in Yoruba land serving the poor in provision of quality education and other infrastructural facilities, tasking politicians to borrow a leaf from him to also leave lasting legacy behind after their tenure.
“One of those things our politicians should be doing is a regular visit to the home of Chief Awolowo. Such will speak to them of the leadership style of great success recorded by Chief Awolowo. Not only that, it will also remind leaders of the legacy, either of good or otherwise they want to be remembered for”
“Chief Awolowo’s feat is yet to be matched in Yoruba land. He is role model, meritorious achiever and a shaker. He is my role model. I will ensure I put smile on people’s faces and lift them out of abject to affluence with whatever God gave me. I will serve humanity till my last breast just as Chief Awolowo did,” he said.
The traditional ruler asserted that Awo was an hero, nationalist, human right activist and a pillar that held and still holding the nation together through his different publications on ways forward for Nigeria. He averred that had Awolowo come in the olden days, he would be one of the gods.
“I had a stop-over at his residence in Ikenne, Ogun State. For up to an hour, archival materials of the late sage were demonstrated accurately backed with date. Chief Awolowo, you are a leader, who did his best for development of humanity. That is why you remain immortal with your enviable track record of transparent leadership,” the Oluwo stated.
