“Like I said earlier, we did not plan to study Building Technology. But all my efforts to change the course failed. We came across some students, who were able to change their courses, but my twin sister (Kehinde) and I couldn’t change ours. Initially, I applied for Civil Engineering while my twin sister applied for Architecture.

Our parents insisted that both of us could not study the same course. But all the letters we wrote requesting for a change of course were not successful because of the workers’ strike that year.

“At first I became sad, but I later on got the courage that I needed to make use of this opportunity, maybe that is where God is leading me. And, with time I got used to the course and God had been helping me to cope with the challenges of the department.

These are the words of identical twins, Taiwo and Kehinde Oluyale, graduating students of the Building Technology Department, who were among the 160 students that graduated with First Class at the 32nd convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

T a i w o graduated with a Cum u l at ive Grade Average (CPGA) of 4.89 points to emerge as the Overall Best Graduating student, while Ke h i n d e, her twin sister scored a CGPA of 4.82 points. Taiwo, who saidstudyinginFUTAcouldbevery tasking, shenotedthatwithKehinde, her twin sister as a reading partner, “wewerereadingtogetheranddoing things together.”

“We tackled and solved challenges together. We raised our full support to teach one another and most lecturers knew us. In her valedictory speech, Taiwo advised her colleagues to use their time to study instead of engaging in social vices that could cost them their lives and future, saying there are online courses and skills available instead of engaging in Internet fraud and other fraudulent activities.

In the analysis of the 3,205 graduating students that received their scrolls for various degrees of the university during the ceremony, other 160 students graduated with First Class Honours; 1,334 students obtained Second Class Upper; 1,483 obtained Second Class Lower Division and 222 students made Third Class and six had a Pass Grade.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, while reeling out some of the achievements of members of staff and students of the institution, the 3,205 graduating students across the nine Schools in the institution had been found worthy in character and in learning to be awarded various degrees of the university.

Fuwape, who thanked members of the university academic and non-academic community for their support and cooperation for his administration, and the opportunity to serve, however, pointed out by the next convocation he would have completed his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the institution
