Woman, 51, hacks husband to death

A 51-year-old woman, Mrs Gladys Napoleon has hacked her husband to death in Chokocho Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. The woman, who confessed to killing her husband after being arrested by the police for the crime, said she carried out the action that led to her husband’s death in selfdefence.

Mrs. Napoleon said that it was the victim, Napoleon Amadi who went for the machete and wanted to kill her with it after a little argument between them. She told newsmen that her husband had earlier threatened to kill her and her two children for ritual purposes and that she raised an alarm during the course of the argument that led to the unfortunate incident, but that no one responded. The suspect added that before her husband died, he was rushed to two hospitals in Igwuruta with the help of his brothers and some police men on duty at the check point.

The mother of two females said they were married for over 35 years with six children but lost four, remaining just the two, noting that she had complained earlier to the husband’s family on maltreatment by the husband but to no avail. During the parade of the suspect at the state Criminal Investigation Department, SCID; in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni told newsmen that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect after using the machete on the husband’s head washed away the blood stain on it. Omoni, who said that the suspect will be charged to court after proper investigation on the matter, advised members of the public, especially families to use alternative means of resolving conflicts rather than resorting to violence.
