Yuletide: S’West govs order Amotekun on 24-hr patrol across inter-state borders

The Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has directed the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) to embark on a 24-hour security patrol of inter-state borders within the region. It was learnt that the move became imperative in order to ensure maximum security of lives and property during the festival season. The governor disclosed this through his Senior Special Assistant, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, while flagging off the security exercise at Owena, a boundary community between Ondo and Osun states along the Ilesha- Akure road. With 310 operatives of Amotekun deployed, he stated that the exercise will also cover major routes in Ondo, Osun, Ogun and Ekiti states. He said: “We are the one coordinating all the commanders.

The steps and actions that commanders are taking received the blessings of all the governors led by Arakunrin Akeredolu. “The people should cooperate with Amotekun because they are there for their own interest. They should help Amotekun to help themselves.” On his part, the, Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State and Chairman of the Commanders in the region, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, who was flanked by his Osun State counterpart, Brig-Gen Basir Adewinbi (retd) said: “The exercise will guarantee the safety of vehicles plying the roads, especially during this Yuletide period when we expect heavy flow of vehicles day and night.

“This is in continuation of our “Operation Clean-up,” which has yielded tremendous results in curbing criminal activities in the state. “It is now being extended to Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, so that we can be sure that this New Year and Christmas festivities will be hitch-free.” Adeleye also disclosed that 750 operatives have been deployed across the 18 local governments of Ondo State. “We have also set aside 210 men for the border patrol cutting across Ekiti, Ogun, through the riverine area and we are also going to cover from Ilesha to Owena-Akure in conjunction with 100 personnel from Osun.” He noted the corps will work round the clock with other security agencies to ensure that the Yuletide period is free of crime.
